In order for your dog to be an enjoyable family companion, proper pet behavior is necessary. Experience has shown us that in order for your dog to be successfully taught, training has to be a fun, rewarding, and positive experience for everyone. Our objective is to motivate your dog to be eager and happy to please you, because he wants to, not because he has to.

Our training will achieve this goal through praise, positive reinforcement, clicker training, guidance, and most of all by making our training FUN for you and your dog. We will teach you how to motivate and guide your dog to learn obedience for life.

We are committed to humane and gentle training methods that will quickly and easily get your dog to perform the desired behavior and respond to a variety of commands willingly.

Your Pooch Will Learn: Placemat, sit, down, come, how to walk on a loose leash, hand target, drop it, leave it, wait at doors, name recognition and more. On week six we test every dog on AKC Puppy Star Skills.

You Will Learn: How to have fun and train your dog at the same time, along with how to handle common problem behaviors. We want to give you and your dog a way to communicate in a positive way when tackling everyday life.

This is a 6-week course that works on more advanced behaviors than basic obedience class, new cues and new objects. It is for any dog who has completed Basic Obedience and for any owner who is looking for better manners from their smart pup. Canine Good Citizen test is given on graduation day.

Includes one-on-one training for your dog with a certified KPA trainer all day. They also get to play in our doggy daycare while they are here so they can get proper dog socialization. At the end of the day, a trainer will spend 30 minutes privately with you and your dog going over everything your dog has learned that day, and teaching you what they know and how to apply this at home. Our training programs are 100% positive reinforcement based and include clicker training. We want your dog to have an enjoyable training experience and learn what you need them to know to be a good citizen.

Boarding Training works the same as drop-off training, except that your dog will stay with us during the training process. Training price does not include boarding.

Drop-off Training Programs

Program #1 (The Basics) 6 days – Cues: Loose Leash walking, Sit, Down, Name Recognition and Touch. We also work on teaching your dog to give attention to their handler, and how to offer behaviors that are appropriate.

Price: $600 for 6 days. Also includes 2 private 1 HOUR follow up appointments that must be used within 3 weeks.

Program #2 (Duration) 11 days – Cues: Everything in Program #1 + Come, Place, Release Cue and long duration with stationary cues (with an added option of either leave it or drop it).

Price: $965 for 11 days. Also includes 4 private 1 HOUR follow up appointments that must be used within 2 months.

Program #3 (Distance) 21 days – Cues: Everything in Programs #1 and #2 + Heel, Stand, Sit from Down, along with hand signals for sit, down, stand and place (with an added option of leave it or drop it, along with working on one problem behavior).

Price: $1450 for 21 days. Also includes 6 private 1 HOUR follow up appointments that must be used within 3 months.

Agility is a fun and interactive way for you to bond with your furry friend! These classes are a wonderful way to help boost your dog’s confidence, no matter their age. Both Beginner’s and Advanced Agility are 4 weeks long and are held in our Astroturf yards. Whether your dog was built for agility or not, this class won’t disappoint! We work on introducing every object slowly to encourage precision and confidence when out on the course.

Canine Conditioning and Enrichment Training is for a dog that needs something to do with their day. A happy dog is a dog that is learning and growing and having fun. Socializing your puppy at a young age is one of the best things you can do to create a happy, enjoyable companion. It prevents behavioral issues from happening in the future and can actually be quite a fun process. Our 3-week+ course covers a list of topics + socialization with objects, people and other puppies.

Course Covers: Play biting, chewing, barking, house training, jumping, grooming tools, how to properly socialize your pup, basic first aid, object socialization, handling exercises and much more…

Object Socialization: While in puppy pre-school, your dog will encounter many things they will need in order to be properly socialized. They will get to meet and greet a variety of different ages of people and puppies. We will socialize them with objects such as: Teeter Totter, Wooden stairs, Vacuum, Wheel Chair, Puppy Swing, Trampoline, Ball Pit and more.

Handling Exercises: During this time, we will socialize your puppy with other people and puppies.

Topics: Each week, there will be new topics covered that will help you better understand your puppy. Also at this time, our trainer will answer any questions that you may have concerning your puppy.

Preschool:  Every Saturday morning at 10:30 pm (except holidays).

Here at Union Lake Pet Services, we are dedicated to giving your puppy the best start possible.

Program: This is a drop-off program for puppies 8-20 weeks old. Your puppy can come in the morning and stay all day. While they are here, they will be assigned a trainer. You will receive an email with videos and pictures of your puppy during the day. Each day will be different. Below are some of the areas that the day may include:

Having your dog therapy tested is an incredible way to not only prove how well-adjusted and well-mannered your dog is, but it gives you and your dog the wonderful opportunity to impact the lives of others in our community. Once dog and owner have passed TDI’s rigorous test, dogs are permitted into certain hospitals, assisted living homes, schools and libraries to visit the people within them.

The class is 5 weeks long with the first 4 weeks consisting of prepping dogs and owners for the Therapy Dogs International test, and the 5th week actually testing the dogs with a certified TDI evaluator.

Prerequisite: Your dog must be over the age of 1 and already know how to heel, sit, down, come and leave it. Your dog also must be good around children, men, women, and other dogs.

School therapy dogs: Our training programs are 100% positive and include clicker and verbal marker training. Our goal is for these dogs to have an enjoyable training experience and learn what you need them to know to be a successful school therapy dog team.

Options for Therapy Dog Program

Option 1: 
Your organization will provide a candidate(s) for your therapy team (i.e. a staff’s personal dog). We will evaluate your candidate for therapy requirements, and if met, we will start an individualized program for that Team.

Training Consists of:

• 30 days in our training facility. Your dog will be put on a schedule and will come into our facility 3 days a week. For the rest of the week, the owner is responsible for reinforcing the training at home.
• At the end of each day, the owner is responsible for meeting with their trainer for a 30-minute private appointment.
• 4 visits to your school to proof the training.
• Training for your teachers in the school and a video for the students.
• Training includes 6 follow-up visits that can be in our facility or in your school.
• Unlimited phone calls and emails with your trainer.

Option 2:
We will pick a breed and a breeder for you. We will then select a suitable puppy based on careful evaluation and testing. Following the selection, our team member will raise that puppy for 10 months while working on all the necessary behaviors that the dog will need to become a successful therapy dog. At the end of this 10-month period, you will receive the dog, and your designated team member will start their training with us.

Training Consists of:

• Raising the puppy, potty training, socialization in school, training.
• Once you pick the puppy up, we will fully train the owner/team member.
• 4 visits to the school to proof the training.
• Training for the teachers and a video for the students.
• 6 follow-up 1-hour appointments in our facility or in your school.
• Unlimited phone calls and emails with your trainer.

Does your dog bark, lunge, or act fearful of other dogs or people? Every dog should be able to walk into the world with confidence and curiosity. Unfortunately, sometimes past experiences and even genetics can cause a dog to feel fearful, frustrated or confused about things they encounter day to day.

Our 6-week-long Quirky K-9s class is built to instill confidence in both dog and owner when encountering things that cause their dogs anxiety or frustration. This class will leave owners with the tools and skills to work their dog through dog and human-directed reactivity.

Class: 1 hour per week for 6 weeks. Space is limited to 4 dogs per class, so call to reserve your spot.

Cost: $375 per dog (includes hands free leash, treat bag and clicker)

This 4-week course is for all dogs who have previously completed our Foundation QK9s course and who are looking to use their skills in new environments and with new triggers. In this class, we’ll practice all of our known skills and continue to gradually get our dogs comfortable with the things that would normally cause them to become reactive.

We all want that companion who can go anywhere and do anything with us. Owning a dog that is uncomfortable around other people and dogs can make that hard to do. Our goal for this class is to give dogs and owners something fun to do with their normally reactive dog. This 4-week agility course will cover all the same equipment that is normally covered in our beginner’s agility course, but will have fewer dogs that we will rotate in and out of the agility yard.

Class: Class is 1 hour per week for 4 weeks.

Victory visits is a training program that helps dogs get more comfortable with procedures that happen here in the vet clinic. We start by teaching them to consent to what will happen, get them okay with the procedures, and then go with them to their vet visits. In the past, dogs have been forced to participate in vet visits but we believe in respecting animals’ feelings about their care.

This option is for reactive dogs that can appropriately handle a busy kennel environment or who are planning to board with us for an extended stay. Your dog will spend the entire day with us receiving 3-4 individualized training sessions with our certified trainers.

Program #1 (Behavioral Modification) 6 days – This program will be individualized for each dog’s behavioral needs.

Coming to the vet can be an incredibly stressful thing for most dogs. For some dogs just walking into the building can cause an onset of fear and apprehension, not to mention the stress that’s caused once the veterinarian starts to poke and prod in places that aren’t comfortable for the dog. Behavior modification is a wonderful way to teach your dog that not only do visits to the hospital and groomers not have to be so scary, it can actually be a lot of fun!

We use purely positive training techniques that gradually and comfortably get your dog used to the things that would normally cause signs of fear and possibly even aggression.

This program includes an entire day of training as well as a half hour of privatized time with our certified trainer to go over what needs to be worked on at home.

For one-on-one individualized time with a trainer working on issues happening in the home. You and the trainer will develop a clear and individually customized training plan for you and your dog.
