In keeping with our theme of dog training and why it is important, we thought it would be a great time to spotlight some of the new canine training classes being offered at Union Lake Pet Services.

Last week, we took the time to bust training myths in Positive Reinforcement Training: Addressing Common Dog Training Myths, and explain why positive reinforcement training is more effective than traditional methods.

Whether you have just recently adopted a new puppy or want to learn more about how your dog can become a therapy dog, we have a class for every canine.

New Training Classes for Dogs of All Ages

Here is a brief overview of our current classes and what they entail.

Basic Obedience Training – Basic obedience is not just for puppies or new dogs. This class is for any dog hoping to sharpen up old cues that they may already know and work on some new ones too. Our main goal is to teach you how to train your dog and have fun and enjoy them at the same time through use of positive reinforcement clicker training. In this class, we will focus on teaching your dog Placemat, sit, down, come, how to walk on a leash without pulling. We also focus on behavior problems such as jumping, digging, drop it, leave it etc. This is a 6 week class.

Drop-Off Sessions – It’s not always possible for working pet parents to attend training classes with their best friends. Drop-off sessions are the perfect fit for busy pet owners who want their dogs to receive one-on-one attention with a professional trainer, as well as the perk of doggie daycare playtime.

Drop-off training is customized into three positive programs that focus on a wide range of cues: Loose leash walking, Sit, Down, Placemat and touch, Come, Stand, Heel, Finish, fun tricks, Leave it and Drop it.

Agility Training – For the intrepid, high-energy canine, agility training can be just the answer to keep him mentally engaged and physical active. This four-week course will give your superstar pooch the chance to learn and expend energy through the use of tunnels, jumps, chutes, weave poles, and other challenging activities (and with doggie peers). We also offer an Advanced Agility course for recent agility graduates and astute pupils.

Trick Training – Dogs who have a good grasp of the foundational training skills can sometimes become bored with the usual routine. Through learning a plethora of fun, focused tricks, your dog will experience additional enrichment and learning.

Therapy Dog Classes – Our canine friends have historically been instrumental in helping individuals thrive by providing emotional and physical support services. Therapy dogs are wonderful examples of unconditional love in action. They can be found in hospitals, nursing homes, foster care homes, and more. For those interested in therapy dog testing, our course prepares dogs for official Therapy Dogs International testing and certification and cover a broad spectrum of skills needed for this exciting service opportunity.

Puppy Preschool – Socializing your puppy at a young age is one of the best things you can do to create a happy, enjoyable companion. It prevents behavioral issues from developing in the future and can actually be quite a fun process and bonding experience.
